Thank you to all who participated in our first ever Summer of Service. From diapers to gardening to lunches to meals at The Gathering to Common Ground listening sessions and rides for Eastside Senior Services, I think it is safe to say that we have made our corner of the world a little more like what Jesus wants because of our communal efforts this summer.

Well done to all, and especially thanks to the people who coordinated the different ministries. We had volunteers from 4 years old to 80 years old and everything in between. Thank you, thank you. And it was such a success that I think we ought to do it again next summer.

With gratitude,
Fr. Burch

And just what kind of impact did you make, St. Mark’s?

You packed and delivered nearly 150 lunches for the children and youth from the Kids Working to Succeed program of All Peoples’ Church.

You donated 954 diapers, 800 wipes, and $795 to the Milwaukee Diaper Mission. In addition, you volunteered four times over the summer to assemble diaper and period packs.

You participated in house meetings with Common Ground, including a listening session at St. Mark’s in August to help Common Ground learn what community concerns you have to assist them in determining what its next campaigns should be.

You planted and tended the community garden plots which has gone on to yield over 57 pounds of produce (22 pounds of tomatoes this week!) as of now. This produce was donated to Fresh Food Connect which then distributes the food to local pantries and soup kitchens.

You gave rides to older adults to get them to their doctor’s appointments, grocery stores, and more.

You served over 150 lunches to community members at The Gathering’s Running Rebels site over three different Saturdays.

Well done, St. Mark’s!

Our Summer of Service may be over, but volunteer opportunities remain:

The Gathering is always looking for volunteers to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can sign up directly on its website. They have a particular need for 3-4 volunteers on Saturday, September 11.

St. Mark’s is continuing our partnership with Milwaukee Diaper Mission with six more volunteer dates. Come help us with tasks such as wrapping diapers and assembling period kits at MDM’s Bay View warehouse. Volunteer sessions are an easy and fun way to help babies and families in our community. To sign up, please email diapers@stmarksmilwaukee.org. Please bring a mask.
