Dear People of God: The first Christians observed with great devotion the days of our Lord’s passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church to prepare for them by a season of penitence and fasting. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 264)

One Book, One Parish—Being Disciples by Rowan Williams
Thursdays in Lent, at 6 pm
This Lent, come and enter into a parish-wide discussion on Rowan Williams’ spare and beautiful Being Disciples: Essentials of the Christian Life. In this thin volume, Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury and spiritual leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion, takes the reader through the essentials of the Christian life.
There are several ways to participate. Each Thursday of Lent, we will gather in the Parish Hall for a simple soup supper at 6 p.m., followed by small group conversations on the book. If Thursday nights are difficult for you, we will post study questions on our Facebook page as well as some teaser questions in the bulletin. You may come for one or all the Thursday night sessions. It should be a thoughtful and meaningful series.
The church has 25 copies. Feel free to take one from the back of the church and kindly put $10 in the basket provided. You’re welcome to use your own copy as well. Or, if we run out, we’ll order more! RSVP to email@example.com, and we look forward to our One Book, One Parish supper and conversation program for Lent.

Riverwest Food Pantry: Item of the Week
St Mark’s has enjoyed a long relationship with the Riverwest Food Pantry. It is the only full-service food pantry that serves our zip code and is always in need of donations. Our large offering basket each week holds items that the pantry has let us know are in high demand. They call these high demand items “Items of the Week.” St. Mark’s will use the six weeks of Lent to re-invigorate our relationship with the Riverwest Food Pantry and to draw attention to its needs each week. Look for signs, bulletin announcements, as well as Facebook and Instagram posts, detailing which items to bring during the season of Lent.
Lenten Retreat—Friday, March 16, at 5 p.m., through Saturday, March 17, at 3 p.m.
The Rev. Dr. Scott Stoner and the Rev. Ian Burch will co-lead a simple Lenten retreat at the Cedar Valley Retreat Center in West Bend, Wisconsin. The retreat, Loving with All Your Heart, Soul, Strength, and Mind, is an opportunity to move deeper into the spiritual heart of Lent through prayer, song, silence, and a chance to be away from the busy hum of everyday life. The retreat costs $60 which includes lodging and meals. You may pay by check (to St. Mark’s/”retreat” in the memo) or online via DONATE button on our website (choose “retreat” from the drop-down menu). Scholarships are available. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org. Space is limited.
